I first began writing when I was in fourth grade. We had an author and an illustrator come to our class and teach us how to write and illustrate our own books. The illustrator also taught us how to make our own cover for our book using construction paper and cardboard. Using a needle and strong thread, he taught us how to bind our own books together to make it look like a real book. I still have it to this day.

I wasn’t aware at the time, but my teacher entered the story I wrote in a contest and I was chosen to have my story published into a book the company was putting together as a collection of children’s stories and poems. We got invited to go to The Landmark Center in downtown St. Paul to read our story to all of the families of the other students who had their stories in the book as well. I remember being super nervous but it was such a great experience. Ever since then, I have wanted to be an author.

I am always writing, creating new characters and scenes in my head. Not one day goes by that I don’t think about it so I know it is my calling. I have written a couple first drafts over the last few years. Some I will edit and turn into books, some will stay hidden forever.

My little family

The love of my life

My big family

Outside of writing, I enjoy a lot of different things. I love taking my kids on adventures, watching them learn and grow every day. I love reading, even though I don’t get a lot of time for it right now with the kids being at a very busy age. I love anything crafty; sewing, scrapbooking, painting, you name it! My favorite season is Fall, I love anything pink and girly, and I love going on long walks on the path in my town to listen to the birds.

I plan to document my journey along the way to publishing my first novel soon. I hope you come with me and learn with me as I go. I love getting emails so feel free to contact me at any time with any questions or comments along the way 🙂 shannongraupman@gmail.com
